Perkiomen Valley School District is proud to partner once again with Be A Part of the Conversation to bring in speaker Dr. Matt Bellace to talk about "Marijuana, the Developing Brain, and Behavior" on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library. More young people these days believe “weed is like salad.” This funny, but sadly inaccurate, statement is consistent with data showing that young people have a lower perception of risk when it comes to regular marijuana use (Monitoring the Future Survey, 2016). This perception is only strengthened by the legalization of marijuana in several states, the proliferation of marijuana as “medicine,” and the promotion of marijuana through pop culture. Given this situation, what chance does any adult have to convince a teenager that, “weed is definitely not salad”? The Feb. 27th program is intended for parents, educators and other adults who care about marijuana's impact on young people. Dr. Bellace, a clinical neuropsychologist and professional youth speaker, will provide insights on how to have an effective conversation with youth on this important topic.

Dr. Bellace will also speak to Perkiomen Valley middle school students the morning of Feb. 27th during in-school assemblies. Please save the date to attend his presentation in the evening so you may further your conversations with your children about marijuana and related issues.
