PVHS High Lites - June 8, 2020 Last Day of School

Dear Parent /Guardian,

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 on their graduation.  We are proud of all of our graduates.  This brings us to today, the last day of school.  This year certainly did not play out the way I imagined back in September.  I am proud of our students and the PV community as a whole for hanging in there during the pandemic. We are PVStrong.   I hope you have a wonderful and safe summer. 

I am borrowing the words from Dr. Clune at MSE because they so accurately describe what I am feeling. “The words “exceptional” and “unprecedented” have been used to describe these past months of the COVID-19 pandemic. And now, we have all been following the tragic events of the last weeks. The current unrest across the nation also impacts us here in the valley. As a school we must place our focus on the many incidents of racial injustice that have been occurring, and sadly continue to occur with the horrific death of George Floyd. We are coming to a watershed moment in education where these events need to have a great impact on us as a school community. How do we work to make a more just and equitable society for everyone? How do we work to be anti-racist? How do we promote tolerance and respect for everyone?”  

These are some of the questions and conversations we have been having at the high school and will focus on in the upcoming year. The district administrators have been working this year on equity and inclusion and I expect that we will expand the work in the upcoming year.  We will engage our students and our parents in the conversations on this topic. I am looking forward to our involvement in being part of the solution.  You can expect regular updates on how the high school will be working to systematically engage with our faculty, staff, and students over this next year and beyond in fostering dignity and respect for all people.  

Perkiomen Valley School District is proud to offer a summer virtual book club for our community. We will be reading and discussing “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You” by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X Kendi. If you are interested in joining the club, please fill out this survey by June 12. Those who fill out the survey will be contacted later with information on how to join, reading deadlines, etc. Please note this club is open to any adult in the PVSD community. 

Students are welcome to join any of the book clubs offered free courtesy of a donation from the PVSD Foundation. Access  those offerings here. 


If you have a rising senior, please look toward the end of this email for information regarding the Senior Trip next year.


Please double check your son/daughter’s courses for next year. You will find the requests in HAC on the same page as their current schedule. Please contact your student’s counselor (via email) and cc the house principal to make changes by June 19.  Our counselors are not in on a regular basis over the summer and might not be able to answer your call. 

I anticipate the application for parking permits to be released in July. I will let you know more details once I have them.

Yearbooks are being mailed home by the company who makes them.  They are hoping to get them into the mail soon. They were closed during the stay at home orders and have just recently opened back up. 

Report cards will be available on HAC on June 16th at noon. Transcripts will not be available until sometime in July. We process the graduated seniors first to send them to their colleges and underclass are completed after. 

Some of you might still have textbooks, uniforms, or library books that you want to return to us. We will plan some time for that in the near future.  At this point students should have gotten their belongings out of the school, with the exception of art work or other things that teachers have not returned to them. I expect those things to be returned when we return to school. 

Students and families can access information about summer reading assignments by going directly to this link, where you can view PVSD's Purpose for Summer Reading; guidelines for summer reading for elementary, middle, and high school students, and information regarding how to access ebooks/ where to find books.

Parents and guardians are an integral part of a child’s reading process and success, so please encourage your child(ren) to practice active, meaningful reading and talk with them about the texts they select. Elementary students work towards reading a certain number of minutes per week. Secondary students (grades 6-12) are to read two books that they self-select.

Summer Assignments can be found on our website.  Please contact the teachers directly with any questions. 

You can register for fall sports  Planeths.com by August 3, 2020. More information can be found on the athletics website. We do not have any specific guidance yet from PIAA about fall sports.  In a normal year, Heat acclimation for football would begin August 10 and the rest of the HS fall sports would begin on August 17th.  Fingers crossed..

High School Fall sports include  - Football, Freshmen Football, Boys/Girls Cross Country, Boys/Girls Golf, Boys/Girls Soccer, Boys/Girls Water Polo, Girls Tennis, Girls Volleyball, Field Hockey


Working Papers can now be issued if a student between the ages of 14 to 18 are in need for a new job and working papers have not yet been issued.  Working papers are required by the State of Pennsylvania until a student is 18 years old.   Please send an e-mail to kgeorge@pvsd.org for the instructions and procedures that have been established by the State of Pennsylvania during our COVID 19 closure.  

If your child is having a problem with their chromebook we ask that they submit a helpdesk ticket to helpdesk@pvsd.org. Our technology team will be able to assist.

Be on the lookout for more information from me in the next several weeks.  I don’t typically send out an email each week over the summer, but will try to keep you informed.  Have a wonderful summer!

First Payment (non-refundable): $200 per seat is due on or before Friday, July 10, 2020  

Second Payment: $353 on or before Friday, September 11, 2020

Third Payment $ 265 on or before Friday, November 6 2020

Final payment: $234 On or before Friday, January 8, 2021


The final cost will be determined based upon the number of students who participate.  At this time, the cost is as listed above, $1,380 for quad occupancy.  


*Payments can be made online in the fee portal AFTER the first payment (via check) is received by July 10th. Once the first payment is made via check, you will have the option to pay online OR via check for future payments. 

Checks must be made out to PV Class of 2021 & must be handed to Mrs. McCloskey (main office) IN PERSON BY EACH DUE DATE.  Please hand in all payments in an envelope marked with your student’s name and homeroom.


Trip Insurance

Trip insurance can be purchased online directly from Travel Turf using a credit card.  More information is to come regarding insurance.  Trip insurance must be purchased by the end of September.  We highly recommend that you purchase trip insurance. 

Trip Cancellation

There is a 100% monetary refund on the amount paid by any student on the school trip, should there be a CDC Travel Ban to Florida,similar to the 2020 CDC Travel Ban, due to the coronavirus impact or any State Department warnings not to travel to Florida.


Travel ID

Students who are 18 at the time of the trip will need a state issued license or photo ID. 

For travel in March 2021, you will not need a real ID as the date to have a Real ID has been extended.

Future correspondence

We will primarily utilize email to communicate between now and departure, and will utilize email should the need arise during the trip to share group-wide information.  Please enter student and parent email addresses on your registration form.  Future email correspondence will include roommate requests, room assignments, payment reminders, final itinerary, packing information, flight information, and last-minute reminders.

2021 Senior Class Trip

March 13 - March 16, 2021 


  1. Deluxe Motor Coaches between the high school and Philadelphia Airport.
  2. Round-trip airfare (PHL - MCO).
  3. All transfers in Orlando from airport to Universal, hotel and back to airport (Disney transportation will be utilized while on-property)
  4. 1 x Universal meal coupon for dinner.
  5. 1 x $25 Disney Dining Card for dinner.
  6. 1 x Disney meal coupon for dinner.
  7. 3 x $7 Disney Dining Cards for breakfast/lunch
  8. 3-day Disney Premium Pass which includes:
    1. 3-day park hopper admission to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, and/or Summerland Miniature Golf (prior to 4:00pm)
  1.  One-day two-park admission to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure
  2.  4-day, 3-night accommodations at one of Disney’s All-Star resorts.
  3.  One 8 X 10 color group photo per participant.
  4.  One security guard per night at the hotel.
  5.  PVHS Chaperones, including a nurse
  6.  Four Nationwide Discount Cards per participant - $80 value ($20 per card) as part of a fundraiser.  Additional cards are $20 -- students earn $15 per card toward the trip.

  • Students are free to explore each park.  How is their safety accounted for?
    • Students will have their chaperone’s cell phone number.  They can contact their chaperone at any time.
    • Periodic check-in locations and times will occur and be arranged each day with the chaperones.
    • World Class Vacations will have a security guard on each floor of the hotel where students are staying.
    • Students cannot park-hop from the Universal parks to the Disney parks on Saturday; their tickets for Disney begin Sunday


  • If my student is tired, is he/she able to return to the hotel early?
    • No student is permitted to leave the parks without a chaperone.
    • There will be designated chaperones each evening who will return from the parks early, this will allow students to return once the designated chaperones have returned.  Students will be alerted via text message when they can return.


  • What about my student who has special dietary requests?
    • These requests will be taken prior to the trip and handled on a case-by-case basis with Disney.  Students are expected to alert wait staff of allergies so that their meals can be properly prepared.
    • Disney is able to support nearly any dietary request and each location has a number of options for students to choose from.  There is no shortage of a variety of meal choices at Disney!


  • What if I cannot reach my student and I need to get in contact with him or her?
    • Parents will be given the cell phone number of their student’s chaperone.  They may call the chaperones at any time while on the trip.  These numbers will be shared with your student prior to leaving for Orlando.  If you need to reach us at any other time, please use Mrs. Ubowski or Mr. Storm cell phone number (this will be shared closer to our trip)..


  • Will my student need spending money?
    • Yes!  Students will be given meal vouchers for some meals (see itinerary).  However, because of park hopping and student preferences, some meals will be up to each student to pay for.  
    • All park admission and activities will be paid for.  All meals on the itinerary are included.  Students may want extra money for specific attractions, souvenirs, extra snacks, etc.
  • How are medications handled?
    • A medical information form will be given to all students.  This form is due to Mr. Stipa, Mrs. Ubowski or Mr. Storm ON OR BEFORE MARCH 1.  
    • We ask that any medications that can be checked in student luggage be packed accordingly.
    • Students will be responsible for carrying and taking their own medication.  No medication will be dispensed by a chaperone.


  • What if my student falls ill or gets injured on the trip?
    • Safety measures will be discussed with students prior to going on the trip.  
    • Each park has Health Services available.  
    • Students are to call a chaperone if they are not feeling well, become injured, or require any First Aid.  The nearest chaperone will meet the student, and our nurse will be made aware and see the student if need be.
    • Parents will be contacted if deemed necessary.
    • If a student is admitted to the hospital, it is requested that a parent or guardian make arrangements to fly down to be with their child.
