Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope this email finds you and your family well.  I would like to welcome the parents of the Class of 2024 to the high school. We are excited to meet our ninth graders. They did attend a virtual orientation on the 25th and I am hoping they found this to be a valuable experience.

Obviously, this school year looks and feels a bit different than others.  I do not want to overwhelm you with information. Very brief overview:

School begins virtually for all students on Sept 8 and we will follow a normal bell schedule.

Now for more and the most current information.  I will still try to keep it short.  I will follow up next week with more information.

I want to welcome Dr. Colleen Slavin to the HS admin staff.  Dr. Slavin is filling in for Mr. Stanson-Marsh who is temporarily the acting principal at Evergreen.  Dr. Slavin will take on the Blue House and will work closely with the blue house counselors, Mrs. Zielinski and Mrs. Sobeck.  When the new principal begins at Evergreen, Mr. Stanson-Marsh will return to his Blue House position and Dr. Slavin will resume her duties as one of the Social Studies Department Chairs and a social studies teacher. Welcome Dr. Slavin.

The North Montco Technical Career Center begins on August 31st for our students.  Our 9th and 10th grade students who are scheduled for AM teh will attend the tech school virtually. In person instruction will occur for our 11th and 12th grade students who are scheduled to attend the PM session or our full-time tech students.  12th graders will attend the tech school on Mondays and Tuesdays while 11th graders will attend Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is a virtual day for all tech school students.  PV will provide busing to and from the tech school and our bus company, STA, will be notifying parents with bus information. Here is current information regarding the tech school and how we handle days where the tech school has a different schedule than the high school for the first marking period.

We will begin our school year later than usual, September 8th.  This will be a virtual start to the school year. All students will remain virtual until Sept 28th at the earliest.

Classroom teachers will be using Google Classroom for assignments and instructional information in both the hybrid and the virtual models.  Students will all need to be a part of the google classroom and participate in class during the designated class time. Parents will be able to request guardian view rights to see the assignments for the classroom.

Attendance is required for students for all of their classes during their assigned class time, whether virtually while we are in a virtual platform or in school and virtually when we begin the hybrid.  Attendance for each period will be recorded in our new system (Synergy) a day after the class meets. We will follow a normal bell schedule for each class beginning on Sept 8th.

Currently the plan is for students to remain virtual until September 28th. Beginning September 29th, given we meet all of the metrics approved by our Board of Directors, we are able to begin to phase students back into the building.  We are continuing to try to find ways to bring certain special education students back into the building sooner.

Currently the plan is to bring in the 9th graders beginning September 29th.  They will be divided into three groupings based on students’ last names.  Tentatively we are looking at the following groupings:

Last names beginning with A-G will be grouped together, H-O and then P-Z.

I would ask that if you have students in your family with a different last name who would not be grouped together and you want them to attend the HS on the same days, please fill out this Form as soon as possible. No need to fill it out if your children have the same last name or fall in the above groupings.

Thank you to those who completed the survey I sent out last week where you were asked to commit to either remaining virtual once we bring students back or if your son/daughter will be returning to the building.  This information is vital to us as we need to know how many students to expect in the building and each class during each period.  If you have not yet filled out the survey, my default setting for you will be hybrid, with your students coming into the building two of the days and working from home in a synchronous manner, with teacher interaction, the other four days.  If you would like to change your response or would like to have your student remain fully virtual (VV2) please email me.

Students who have elected to remain virtual will continue in their same classes and will Zoom into class each day as they did prior to students returning.

If your student has elected to participate in our asynchronous virtual platform through PV Virtual (PVV) you do not need to respond to the survey sent last week.  Your son/daughter’s schedule will indicate registration on this platform and the schedule will say CYBER for the courses period 1 through 10. You will receive information from the service provider about the classes your student has been enrolled in.  Remember, PVV is not taught by PV teachers and we do not manage the coursework.  There will be contacts through this program for you to receive additional information.

 Brief overview of instruction:

Virtual (Sept 8-Sept 28 and VV2): Students will participate in a synchronous class via Zoom from their home with their teacher and classmates. Teachers may lecture for a period of time, show a video which supports their lesson, have students interact via breakout sessions, chats, etc. Asynchronous activities may be embedded in the daily lesson.  Participation in the class will occur during the regularly scheduled class time per the normal bell schedule all 6 days of the cycle. Attendance will be taken daily

Hybrid: One third of the students will attend school in person each day while the other two thirds will participate from their homes. (Those who are virtual will also zoom in to the class.)  Students physically attend classes at the high school for 2 days a cycle. Students will participate in a synchronous class via Zoom from with their teacher and classmates. Attendance will be taken daily.

There is a lot of information here so I will end this email for today.  I will send you more information next week.

Thank you and have a great day!
