High Lites 2/2

posted Feb 2, 2018, 11:53 AM by Cyndi Moss   [ updated Feb 2, 2018, 12:34 PM ]

Good afternoon,

Eagles frenzy officially hit the Valley this week.  Our typical Friday sea of Orange and Brown has been changed to an ocean

of Green.  We hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend regardless of which team you root for during the big game Sunday.

Please understand that if your son/daughter is ill during the school day a visit to the school nurse is necessary. After our nurses evaluate your student a call will be made to you by the nurse (not your son/daughter).  Students who independently call home to be picked up will be given an unexcused dismissal.  Thank you for your help with this.

The PVSD Foundation's Vikings in the Village silent auction fundraiser is tonight! Please join us for a fun evening supporting education on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at Hotel Fiesole in Skippack. PV supporters have donated many wonderful items for the silent auction such as MSE, MSW and HS musical tickets, a pool party, $125 towards Community Education classes, a Viking Homecoming Football experience, family and individual sports passes, MSE Virtual Reality/Rock Wall/Makerspace experience for up to 6 people, superintendent and principals for the day, yearbooks, Art and Food Truck festival vouchers, two 2018 prom tickets, a HS parking permit, PVSD swag and a Catalyst SAT Prep admission. Other auction items include a Phillies ticket and dinner package for a 6/30/18 fireworks game (6 great seats in Section 139 + $100 Chickie and Pete's gift card), a half CSA share to Lodal Creek Farm, PV Soccer sign-up fees (2) and a Black Bear Lacrosse camp fee, to name a few. There are over 50 auction items to bid on of all values!

Tickets can be purchased at the door via credit card or check. Admission is $50/person.

The PV School District Shoe Drive as been EXTENDED until Saturday, February 2nd.  If you have donations, please bring them to the high school or to the district office.  Both buildings have collection bins just inside the main doors.  Or, if you have a large collection to donate, please e-mail pvsdfooundation@gmail.com to arrange a pick-up.

PV School District is sponsoring the 9th annual DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT which will be held on Saturday, March 3rd.  Registration is NOW and is on-line at:  https://perkiomen.revtrak.net/tek9.asp.  Click on the dodgeball registration button.

Program planning is here!!  Teachers are currently making recommendations for next year’s courses until Feb 9th .  Home Access Center will open for your student to make choices for next year’s courses.  Please read through the program planning guide.  All students must take full schedules (at least 6 periods per day). Seniors are able to ask to be considered for Senior Privilege period 1 or period 10 as one of their 7 periods per day. Through the course requests. We will try to block off the senior’s schedule so that if they do qualify for senior privilege in the fall, they will be able to be scheduled for it.  All students need to enter alternate courses into the system as we cannot guarantee any courses or placement of courses.

We will be offering some new and exciting courses and have made some other changes. The new guide is now on our website under the academic tab. Program Planning Guide

Students should begin to think about what courses they want to take. Students will be expected to make thoughtful schedules as they will not be able to make changes after June 30th. All students must roster no fewer than 36 periods per cycle up to 42 periods.

For everyone’s safety, when attending events on campus, please do not park in fire lanes or next to any yellow curbs. Not only do you run the risk of getting a ticket or being towed, but you could impede emergency personnel if they are needed.  Thank you in advance.

Please call the school to notify us of your student’s absence.  When you call the attendance line, you will be directed to leave a message for Mrs. Berry. If you need to speak to her, please contact the main office and ask to speak with her.  There are two designations for absences from school in Pennsylvania, excused and unexcused. An absence from school is categorized as excused when it is followed by a note that provides an acceptable reason for the absence within three days of the absence. This note may be sent as an email to cberry@pvsd.org. The source of this email must be listed as a guardian contact email address on the district’s eSchoolPlus student information system.  An absence is categorized as unexcused when the child’s school has not received a note providing an acceptable reason for the absence within a three day time period.

Upon receipt of a written request from the parents of the students involved, students may be excused from school attendance to participate in an educational tour or a trip during the school term at the expense of the parents.  An Educational Trip Request form must be submitted to the Principal five (5) days prior to the student’s departure. Approval for such trips is limited to ten (10) school days per year. Additional days will be classified as unexcused and be subject to legal attendance regulations. A signature of the parent(s)/ guardian(s) must accompany the application. Every effort should be made to avoid proposing trips during final examinations and the State testing dates for students in participating grades and/or courses as such absences cannot be recorded as excused. Please see the testing schedules for PSSA and Keystone Exams included in this handbook. Non-school educational trips are not recommended for students in academic difficulty or with attendance problems and will not be approved. The ten (10) days will be recorded absences and fall within the attendance policy. It is the responsibility of the student to contact his/her teacher to make arrangements to make up work missed during an educational trip.  For additional information, contact your school principal.

Informational meeting about Advanced Placement (AP) Courses for parents and students in grades 8-11 who are considering taking an AP Course(s) for the first time next year. This meeting will take place Feb 15th at 7:30 in the auditorium.

If you were not able to attend the Jan. 31st presentation of "A Parents' Guide to Teens & Substance Abuse," please feel free to visit https://conversation.zone/2018/01/31/parentsguide/ for slides of the presentation, resource materials, and more.
