High Lites Dec 21

posted Dec 21, 2018, 11:47 AM by Cyndi Moss

Good afternoon,

I am amazed how quickly the fall went and that we are already at the holiday break. Despite some bumps in the road, we continue to have a wonderful school year. All of us here at the high school want to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season no matter which holiday you might celebrate. A huge shout out to those of you who continue to support the Power Pack program so that we here at PV can take care of our own.

If you are looking for something to do between now and the new year consider supporting our students as they continue to participate in athletic contests. The winter sports’ schedule can be found on PVVikings.com.

Its not too early to think about summer!! Our 2019-20 school year fall sports begin in August of 2019.   High school football(grades 9-12) heat acclimatization will begin Aug. 5, 2019.

Practices/tryouts for high school cross country, field hockey, boys/girls soccer, girls tennis, girls volleyball, boys/girls water polo will begin Aug. 12, 2019.

Our expectation is that all athletes will meet registration and physical exam deadlines, and be in attendance the first day of practice/tryouts.  Please schedule vacations and physical exams prior to the start of practice/tryouts if your child plans to participate.

The 4th senior trip payment was due Dec 7th.  Please take care of this if you have not already done so.  Please contact Mrs. Gallagher rgallagher@pvsd.org if you have any questions.

Senior parents,  it’s not too late to submit a Recognition Ad for your child.  Just visit the High School homepage and click on the PVHS VOYAGER YEARBOOK ORDERING icon at the bottom of the page.  The final deadline to submit an ad is December 31, 2018.

Seniors will have an AM assembly on Thursday, January 17th to cover topics related to our Career Study program.  The information that will be covered has been updated online (minus the assembly videos which are from last year).  If you wanted to get a jump start, here is a link to that information. The paperwork will be available after Winter break outside of room 237.

Program planning for the 2019-2020 school year will begin soon.  The proposed changes to the program planning guide were presented to the board in December and will be on the agenda for approval in January.  Teachers will make their recommendation in HAC and in February parents and students can go into HAC to make changes and pick electives and alternate courses.

Vaping is a widespread issue among some young folks.  Please see the information from the Montgomery County’s Office of Drug and Alcohol to find out more information about vaping. They have provided a  Vaping Toolkit with resources for families, schools, and healthcare providers-www.montcopa.org/vapingtoolkit.

PVSD will be hosting several parent information evenings. Please see the information below and plan to attend. Registration information can be found on the flyers.
