High Lites Oct 5

posted Oct 5, 2018, 8:33 AM by Cyndi Moss

Good afternoon,

Next week is going to be a busy one here in the valley. Spirit week, PSATs, PM assembly, Pep Rally, Hall of Fame, Homecoming game and Homecoming Dance are all next week.  More information is contained in this edition of the High Lites this week.

While PV does not have school Monday, the tech school does. PV will provide transportation. If you have questions about transportation please contact STA   610 489-9110

Join us Saturday night in the stadium for Music in the Valley.  This is a USBANDS Marching Band Competition. The action begins at 6pm.

At this point, all students should have an ID card. Students who were absent during the picture days have been given a temporary ID which will expire on Oct 24th, picture makeup day.  Those students must get their picture taken that day in order to get an ID.

Please emphasize with your student the importance of wearing their ID.  This is in an effort to make the HS an even safer place. Students who do not wear their IDs will ultimately face school discipline and risk the loss of privileges including parking and prom. Let’s avoid going down that road, so please encourage your student to wear their ID.

All students are required to have their ID visible at all times (not during PE or when in a shop class where the ID becomes a safety issue). They were given a lanyard, but don’t need to use the one given to them. They can also get a clip if they prefer. All we ask is that the ID is visible to everyone.

We will be following a PM Assembly schedule on Thursday Oct 11th.

Grade 9 will be doing activities with their Link Leaders

Grade 10 and Grade 11 will have a lesson regarding Mental Health from our counselors

Grade 12 will have an assembly about Graduation Announcements and the graduation project.

Also, next Friday (Oct. 12) the Vo-Tech school is scheduled for an In-Service Day. There is no need for the Vo-Tech Students to leave class early to go to lunch or go to the Tech Buses. On this day AM Vo-Tech Students are permitted to arrive at 10:05 am if they have a ride to school and PM Vo-Tech Students will be permitted to leave at 11:20 am. The PM  students can pick up the bus in the bus circle to take them home.

If the AM Vo-Tech Students arrive on the bus to school in the morning they should report to the Cafeteria for roll and then remain there for Study Hall Periods 1, 2, and 3. If any PM Vo-Tech Students want to stay for the Pep Rally, they should report to the Auditorium for Study Hall periods 7/8 and 9 and report to the Cafeteria Period 10.

On Wednesday  October 10th over 500 sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSATs. Testing will occur during the first three periods.  The students who are testing have all been assigned to a testing room.  AM Vo Tech students who are not testing will report to study hall once they arrive back at PV at 10:40 until the start of period 4.   All PM tech students must eat 4th period lunch this day. Please see our adjusted bell schedule for this day.

We need YOU!  Our annual Career and Volunteer Fair is on Thursday, November 15th (7:30-10:30AM).  The success of this event relies on a wide variety of participants.  Please consider sharing your interests (career or volunteer) with our students.  Here is the registration link.  For more information, contact Patti Colucci at pcolucci@pvsd.org.  Thank you!

Thank you to all who attended the Financial Aid Information Night and FAFSA Completion Night last night. If you have questions about financial aid and the FAFSA please contact your student’s counselor.

Please join us on Thursday October 18th at 6:30pm for a conversation about Vaping. We’ll be joined by Patrick Dowling, LPC, a licensed clinician who works with adolescents and young adults. We will also be joined by a prevention specialist from Caron Treatment Center. Please see the website for more information about the  Vaping Conversation.

We are seeing more students engaging in this dangerous practice. Be aware that vaping  and/or possession of vaping products are against board policy and students who violate this policy will face school discipline.

Tickets for the homecoming dance (Oct 13th) will be on sale next week during lunches for $10.  Tickets WILL NOT be sold at the door. The dance begins at 7pm and ends at 10pm.   This dance is open to PVHS students in good standing (not on debt or privilege suspension lists) and The dance runs from 7pm-10pm in our competition gym.

This is not a formal dance (no gowns and tuxes), but most students do get dressed up a little.  Just a reminder, that shoes must be worn at all times while at the dance and students must present their school ID to get in. This dance is sponsored by the Music Boosters.

The Fall Blood Drive will be held on Friday, October 19th. Students must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a photo ID.  Sign-ups will run from TODAY through Friday, October 12th. Students may sign up with Mrs. Herr in Room 253 or with their Social Studies teachers.

Please remember if you are driving your student to school, the student drop-off/pick-up area is in the faculty parking lot (the one across from the stadium).  Please do not drop off your student on campus or high school drive as this creates unsafe conditions for everyone on campus.  The bus circle and the main office circle are also not student drop-off or pick up areas.

The eligibility list for athletics, clubs and other activities will be run each Friday. Any student who has a marking period grade below 60% at the time the report is run will not be eligible to participate in their sport or activity Sunday through Saturday. The handbook on the website did contain an error so please note these requirements.

Please remind your student that every assignment counts!  Please contact your student’s teacher if you have questions about the current marking period grade
