Good afternoon,


Thank you for those of you who attended Meet the Teacher Night last night.  I hope you found the evening to be informative. Please feel free to contact the teachers for additional conversations or questions. A huge thank you to those who brought food donations for the power pack program. By the end of the night the bin was overflowing. Thank you for assisting the students in our community.


Congratulations to Katie Litak and Max Lin! They are National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists.  They were entered in the competition because of their scores on the PSAT when they were juniors. Every year over 1.6 million juniors take the PSAT exam in October. Approximately 50,000 students are then entered into the competition based on their scores (PA is especially competitive).  Only 16,000 students in the country are named as semi-finalists. They have the opportunity to become two of the 8,000 finalists in the country and win scholarship money. Congratulations to both Katie and Max.


All students have a school issued Gmail account. Students should access their email often to receive information from their classroom teachers, the daily announcements and more. Student logins are their network login@pvsd.org.


PSAT registration will open ONLINE ON THE PVHS WEBSITE STARTING  Monday Sept. 17 at 8:00 am and will close Friday Sept. 28th. at 3 pm.

If you register your student online a fee will be added to your HAC account for $25.  Students can also come to the counseling center during their lunch to sign up.

Registration is $25.00. Checks made payable to PVHS

It is recommended that sophomores and juniors considering college take the test.


You will be able to watch PVTV this year in the luxury of your home. There will be a new format which will be taped.  Because of this, you will be able to view the broadcasts online. More information once they are up and running.


Guest forms for the homecoming dance (Oct 13th) will be available in the main office beginning Monday. This dance is open to PVHS students in good standing (not on debt or privilege suspension lists) and one guest from another HS.  The guest form must be signed by and administrator at their school and returned to us. I am waiting for more information from the music boosters regarding the dance.


The academic help after school bus is now running on Tuesdays and Thursdays for any student who is staying after school for after school help or an academic activity. Students will need to obtain a bus pass from their teacher or advisor. The bus departs from the steps of the student parking lot at 4pm.  


Our clubs are beginning to have their initial meetings of the year.  You can find information about the clubs under the HS web page under activities.  The schedule of club meetings can be found on the morning announcements.


If you have questions about the HS try to enter the term into the search bar of the HS webpage (ie yearbook).  You will find links to our webpages that contain that information.


The student handbook is on the website under the parent tab. The Handbook should be able to answer most of your questions about the high school.  Please take the time to familiarize yourselves with the contents of the handbook.


Additionally, the daily announcements are posted on the website. These are the same announcements that the students hear daily.  Students are emailed a copy of the daily announcements every day on their school gmail account. (their network login @pvsd.org). Please encourage your student to read them.


Please contact the HS if you have any questions about anything in the handbook or in the daily announcements.


If your son/daughter is absent, an absence note must be received within three school days of the absence.  Students may turn in the note to the attendance desk in the gym lobby before 7:50am or the main office after school begins.  All early dismissal notes also follow the same procedures. You can email Mrs. Berry, our attendance secretary at cberry@pvsd.org rather than bringing the note to school.


We currently do not have additional parking passes and have a waiting list for parking spots.  We are working on a solution on which could add a number of additional student spots on campus. Once these become available we will assign spots to those on the waiting list.


All students grades 9-11 should now have received an ID card and a lanyard. These were given to students during the picture days this past week. Seniors will be getting theirs Monday (if they already had their portraits taken) or during the senior portrait make-ups today through Tuesday.

 

All students are required to have their ID visible at all times (not during PE or when in a shop class where the ID becomes a safety issue). They were given a lanyard, but don’t need to use the one given to them. They can also get a clip if they prefer. All we ask is that the ID is visible to everyone.

 

This is in an effort to make the HS an even safer place. Please reinforce with your student the importance of wearing their ID.  Unfortunately, students who don’t wear their ID will ultimately face school discipline. Let’s avoid going down that road and encourage your student to wear the ID.


At this time the fees for all fall athletics, AP exams, senior dues, and the senior trip have been entered into our system.  The activity fees for clubs will be entered after initial club interest meetings have occured and club rosters have been developed.  

 

For your convenience, in partnership with Frontstream Payments, the high school will accept online payments  through the Home Access Center for outstanding fees. Please note in order to be directed to the Frontstream payment portal you will need to disable popup blockers on your web browser.


To access the payment portal log into HAC using the parent login and choose the "Fees" tab


Processing fees are as follows:

  • 25 cents per transaction for electronic check payments (requires entering bank routing number and account number)

  • 2.10% for payment with a Debit Card

  • 2.39% for credit card payment

  • 2.89% for payment with a credit rewards card


You can still pay for these items with a check(s) turned in to the school if you prefer. If you have any questions or feel that an error has been made on your student’s account, please contact the main office. Thank you for your patience as we implement this system.


Please remember if you are driving your student to school, the student drop-off/pick-up area is in the faculty parking lot (the one across from the stadium).  Please do not drop off your student on campus or high school drive as this creates unsafe conditions for everyone on campus.  


The class of 2019  Graduation Project paperwork is due before 12/1/2018.  Students can complete those projects this summer and hand in their paperwork before the 12/1/18 deadline (next school year).  More information about Graduation Projects may be found here.

An Educational Trip Request form must be submitted to the Principal five (5) days prior to the student’s departure. Educational Trip Form

Approval for such trips is limited to ten (10) school days per year. Any days above the 10 days of absence will not be approved for an educational trip.

Educational trips will not be approved during Keystone Exams or Final Exams

Non-school educational trips are not recommended for students in academic difficulty or with attendance problems and will not be approved.

It is the responsibility of the student to contact his/her teacher to make arrangements to make up work missed during an educational trip.  

College visits and job shadowing opportunities will be counted as non-absences if student returns with official evidence from the college/job (i.e., stationary/business card from college admissions office or from supervisor if job shadowing, and/or other documentation verifying proof of visit/job shadowing).



Upcoming Events

Sept 14th-18th Final sittings for Senior Portraits, contact Lifetouch at 1 (800) 687-9327 to set up an appointment for these days. Senior IDs will be made from the senior portraits. All seniors are to get their portrait taken for the yearbook and ID purposes but are under no obligation to purchase.
