January 5th High Lites

posted Jan 5, 2018, 8:40 AM by Cyndi Moss

Good afternoon,

I hope you enjoyed our snowy mini vacation. The district’s maintenance and custodial crews have been working very hard to get our facilities ready for our students.  The drifting snow has proven to be a challenge as areas that were once cleared this morning again were snow filled.

The final payment for the senior trip was due today. Due to schools being closed, we will accept payments on Monday.  Students can come to Mrs. Kristofco in 220, Ms. Coryat in 224 or Mr. Stipa in the main office ($190 cash or check to PVHS Class of 2018).  Please understand that we MUST submit their final payment to the company next week as well and without your child's payment on Monday, we cannot include them in our final numbers.  PLEASE be prompt with this payment!

Perkiomen Valley School District is hoping high school students will make Jan. 15 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) a day on instead of a day off by participating in our annual Day of Service event. We have organized a number of volunteer opportunities for you on Jan. 15. You can volunteer at the high school, where we will have activities for younger students, or you can venture out to serve organizations in our local community. If you belong to a club or other organization that requires community service hours, this is a great way to log some hours! Please click on the link below to sign up for a volunteer spot. Don't wait too long - volunteer spots tend to fill up pretty quickly! We look forward to seeing you on the 15th.

Program planning will begin very soon!  The school board approved some changes to our guide at their December meetings.  We will be offering some new and exciting courses and have made some other changes. The new guide will be on the HS website by January 8th.

New courses include:

Forensics Science

Human Genetics

Zoololgy

Discrete Mathematics

Industrial Print Graphics

Football from A-Z

Elite Team Sports

Volleyball

Self-defense tactics 2

Teachers will make recommendations for core classes during the month of January.  Students should begin to think about what courses they want to take. Students will be expected to make thoughtful schedules as they will not be able to make changes after June 30th. All students must roster no fewer than 36 periods per cycle up to 42 periods.

Thank you all in advance for supporting our winter athletes. The PIAA and the PAC do have a code of conduct which calls for good sportsmanship.  We want our athletes and fans to enjoy

the game while keeping proper decorum.

Here is an excerpt from our handbook.:

▪ Conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times, showing respect for visiting players and injured athletes, by not booing participants on the playing areas, and by respecting property.

▪ Show respect for the game officials and refrain from booing their decisions or interfering with their control of the contest.

▪  Refrain from vulgarity and indecent gestures which are reflections of immaturity.

▪ Cheer under the organized guidance of the cheerleaders. Cheers to interfere with opponents’ cheering are prohibited. Foot stomping in stands is to be eliminated.

▪ Refrain from using noisemakers and signs in any gymnasium or at indoor contests.

▪ Refrain from littering premises, throwing of confetti or paper, and tossing objects onto the playing areas.

▪ Support musical groups for indoor activities. However, such groups must be organized, school-sponsored, and supervised to play only before games and during half-time.

▪ Avoid bringing to any indoor contest any type of electronic device.

▪ Follow the Code of Conduct for promoting good sportsmanship, adults and students alike.

Pioneer Athletic Conference schools reserve the right to eject any spectators whose conduct is detrimental to good sportsmanship. Misbehavior at sporting events may lead to prosecution or school disciplinary action.

We have a  HS tip line for parents and students to make anonymous tips regarding things such as bullying, students in crisis, drugs, weapons, possible fights, threats, vandalism etc .  Please supply as much detail as possible (ie, time, date and location of the issue, persons involved,  pictures if you have them, etc.  I ask that you refrain from using this tipline to ask for school closures for inclement weather. (The HS admins have nothing to do with making those calls).  All tips are routed to the HS administrators, but in the case of an emergency please call 911.  HS Tipline

Tips that are sent in over weekends or vacation periods will be dealt with once school resumes.

If the district calls for a 2-hour delay (sorry, we don’t make that call at the building level), you will be notified via phone and an email.  Our website will also post information.  We do not send our AM Tech students to the tech school when we have a two hour delay.  PM tech does attend and will have lunch at 11:20am. School begins at 9:50am and all students will have a 30 minute lunch period.

Comprehensive Planning/Special Education Plan Update:

It’s time to begin Comprehensive Planning here at PV. Every three years, school districts are required to create a plan that helps "set the course" for the district over the next three years.  A Steering Committee made up of stakeholders (employees, parents, students, Board members and community members) has been formed to lead this effort and is already working toward developing a mission, vision, and goals for our district.

We hope to provide helpful information throughout this process through website updates and emails. Part of this process will also involve us asking you for feedback about our district through surveys. Keep an eye out for future requests. In the meantime, you can keep up to date on Comprehensive Plan by visiting the district website for information.  Comprehensive Plan Information
